Introducing Trinity’s New Intern: Andrew Lewis!

We're excited to welcome Suzanne and Andrew!
We’re excited to welcome Suzanne and Andrew!

We are excited to introduce to you Andrew Lewis. Andrew is a student at the Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary in Columbia, South Carolina.  Typically, Trinity has had students from Luther Seminary in St. Paul.  However this is an unusual situation.  Andrew’s wife, Suzanne, recently graduated from law school and recently received a job offer to work for the US Department of Justice at their office near the Minneapolis-St. Paul airport.  So Andrew needed an internship someplace south of the Twin Cities.  All of our seminaries work closely together.  So when Southern Seminary contacted Luther Seminary to ask for help in identifying a good internship site, Luther connected them with Trinity.  .

Here is Andrew’s biographical statement:

“I was born into a Methodist pastor’s family, and then my father joined the Army as a chaplain. All of that to say, I don’t really have a “home” town — I’ve lived everywhere from Georgia to Kansas to Germany. If I’m from anywhere, though, it’s beautiful Athens, Georgia, home to the University of Georgia and and the band “REM.” My mom’s parents are from the Athens area, so I spent many summers in the area climbing in the magnolia trees and marveling at the university campus. After graduating high school in Leavenworth, KS, I decided to attend UGA for college. It was there, as part of a non-denominational campus ministry, that I met Suzanne (now my wife). We bonded over the literature of CS Lewis.

After college, I attended seminary at Emory University, just down the road from Athens in Atlanta. There, I met the second great love of my life — the ancient liturgical tradition of the Church. I began a field ed internship at a small Lutheran parish in the Atlanta area and, after growing up a life-long Methodist, transferred my membership in to the ELCA. After seminary, Suzanne and I were married, and I moved back up to Athens for her last year of law school (also at UGA). Following a second round of seminary at Lutheran Southern in Columbia, South Carolina, I’m looking forward to a change in pace, both outside of the classroom and out of the South for the first time in nine years.”

I’m looking forward to an opportunity to meet Andrew face-to-face at the Internship Supervisor’s orientation and training in mid-May.  Andrew will begin his ministry at Trinity in mid to late August, after he and Suzanne move to Owatonna from Georgia.  We’re excited to have them be a part of our community, and welcome them to Trinity!

Peace,
Pastor Todd
