On Sunday, November 20, Trinity is going to be holding a brief, special congregational meeting after the 9:30am worship and prior to the 10:45am service. There are two agenda items for our meeting:
- To vote to accept the gift of a home from the estate of Dorothy Turtness, a long time member who died this past summer. Dorothy had no close, living relatives and had a deep and faithful connection to Trinity. She left her home to the congregation in her will. We are grateful for her remembering Trinity in this way.
- To vote to authorize Trinity’s congregational council to develop and carry-out a plan for what to do with this property.
The home is located at 409 Murray Street, just a few blocks away from the church.
Trinity is required to have a congregational meeting any time the congregation receives the gift of real estate. This is to protect the congregation from accepting gifts that might have back taxes, or other liens levied against them. In this case, the property is completing the probate process and there have been no such taxes or liens discovered.
We have not yet seen the home. Our hope is that we will gain access prior to the congregational meeting, so that we can answer any questions people may have about it.
We are assembling a team to think together about how to make best use of the property for Trinity’s present and future needs.
The team appointed to the task will take a good look at all of the options and will recommend the best possible plan back to the council.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me. In the meantime, I’m looking forward to seeing you at the congregational meeting on November 20.
God’s peace,
Pastor Todd
