A big chunk of the day today was spent outside, doing a home repair project. I’ll be honest: I don’t love doing home repair projects. And I really hadn’t been looking forward to today’s project. It involved digging and pouring concrete. So there’s that.
But I went out around 7:30am and got started.
At one point, I was lying on the grass, on my side, using my hand to level out dirt to prepare it for the concrete. (Yes, I know that there are probably more efficient ways to do it, but this was a small hole and I don’t have any skills…so this is how I handled it.)
And as was doing this, I remember thinking to myself “man, I wish I’d remembered to grab my sunglasses out of the car.” And then I thought “Sunglasses? I need sunglasses?”
I looked up. There were only a few white, puffy clouds, and I could almost see the energy from the sun being poured into the earth, into the grass and the trees, and in to me. And I just paused, and spent a moment taking it all in. It was beautiful.
And I remember thinking “and this is how God does it. This is how God creates, and nurtures and sustains life. This is incredible.”
“Ah Lord God! It is you who made the heavens and the earth by your great power and by your outstretched arm! Nothing is too hard for you. ” – Jeremiah 32:17
This moment hit me this morning by accident. But in the days to come, I am going to be more intentional. I am going to sit, and soak in the beauty and he creation of God. Because when we do, we witness the power, love and glory of God.
